About Us

Paul Shaffer is currently a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in North Carolina. He obtained his Master's degree in clinical psychology in 1988. Living in the city of Charlotte since 1992, Paul has worked with adults, couples, families and children for over 20 years, both in the private and public sectors (including the hospital, jail, residential treatment and county mental health populations). Paul chooses to specialize in working with adults - specifically relationship issues, men's issues, depression and anxiety.

From 1985 to 1992, Paul worked in a variety of counseling settings. In Bowling Green and Franklin, Kentucky, he administered skills, interest and vocational testing, as well as counseled university students. He did psychological assessments for social services, the courts, jails and hospitals as well as provided outpatient counseling services for the general population (children to seniors). In Atlanta, Georgia, he continued in outpatient counseling with the child and adolescent population. While there, he served as Chairman of the Quality Assurance Committee for Dekalb county's board of Mental Health.

Paul moved to Charlotte in 1992 and started in private practice with The Family Connection, continuing to do outpatient counseling. In 1994, Paul took a job with the county (Specialized Youth Services), while continuing to do evening practice, which focused primarily on adults and relationship issues.

Paul continued in evening practice until 2001, when he took time off to write a book summarizing the couple's work that he had been doing. He continued full-time with the county, in addition to doing the occasional support groups. Published in 2005 through Authorhouse, "Conflict Resolution for Couples" is the culmination of that effort
